How are you tuned about how geeky companies are requesting geeky developers? You just need to observe your environment. Geeky companies are using analogies to request developers. A good company usually requests for rockstar developers, ninja developers, jazz developers, among other well known analogies in the geek world. Each one has its own meaning, and each one of them has its own application on how is each developer type. You just need to know how operates each of them.

You can put any of those keyword pairs, usually with the form of “analogy (developer | programmer | analyst | admin | administrator)”. Those analogies are used commonly to refer to great developer, very skilled programmers that can handle difficult problems and solve them with the proper programming technique. So, all refers to code, and nothing related to what the analogy term really means. If you have heard about rockstar developer, be sure that the company is not waiting a long haired guy with dark glasses and marijuana in his pockets…

So, is very common to use analogies on programming and between the geek culture. If you handle those analogies literally, you will be falling on various mistakes. Get a little bit introduced on the geek culture before doing judgements and using your own terms. You just need to be a good observer of your environment. And please, keep posting jobs like “Java Developer is Required” if you cannot handle geeky terms. You will probably receive resumes from people that do not accepts challenges, is not interested in code and probably do not reads books, discussions and chats related to computer programming.

You will not be less thoughtful if you use those terms. However, you will be challenging the applicant to your job posting to be skilled as his resume indicates. Take some tests from well know companies, that would help you a lot while you are seeking developers, also you can take free tests online, you can extract some questions from them, that will also help you find good developers. Feel free to get introduced into the geek culture, just read a little a be more observant of your environment. Well, I cannot judge your limited capacity to understand analogies if you are the one that reads everything literally.
